Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds"

http://www.zap2it.com/movies/news/za...,1041308.story

Quentin Tarantino is reportedly interested in Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio for key roles in his long-awaited "Inglorious Bastards."

"Inglorious Bastards," which went out to studios just a week ago and already has been reviewed extensively and positively online, is set up at Weinstein Company, but Tarantino and Harvey Weinstein are seeking a co-financing partner to handle offshore territories, according to Variety

The trade paper reports that Tarantino met with new father Pitt in France on Friday about the role of Aldo Raine in the World War II ensemble drama and adds that the writer-director is hoping to meet with DiCaprio about playing Hans Landa. The Pitt news was first reported in Nikki Finke's Deadline Hollywood blog, a fact the Variety story fails to mention.

Pitt has previously worked with a Tarantino script on Tony Scott's "True Romance." Last seen in "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" and "Ocean's Thirteen," Pitt has "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and "Burn After Reading" opening later this year.

Those two Pitt films will go head-to-head with DiCaprio's late-2008 double-bill of "Body of Lies" and "Revolutionary Road." The actor has also completed work on "Shutter Island," his latest collaboration with Martin Scorsese.

Tarantino hopes to shoot "Inglorious Bastards" later this year in Germany.

hahaha forgot about Pitt's stoner character in True Romance. Not exactly epic work there, daddy.

Re: Tarantino's "Inglorious Bastards"

True Romance was awesome, though Pitt's role was just a bit part.

While bigger names may be circling the film, the first actor to actually sign on for Quentin Tarantino's "Inglorious Bastards" may be a fellow director.

According to Variety, Eli Roth is in talks to play Sgt. Donnie Donowitz in the WWII ensemble film. The trade paper describes the character as "a baseball bat-swinging Nazi hunter."

Brad Pitt is still in talks to play Aldo Raine, the leader of the group of Jewish-American soldiers on a revenge mission in Nazi-occupied France. The trade notes, though, that Tarantino is no longer interested in having Leonardo DiCaprio play SS Col. Hans Landa, looking instead at German actors for the role.

"Inglorious Bastards," a Universal and Weinstein Company co-production, will begin shooting in Europe this fall.

Roth and Tarantino have a long-standing friendship and creative partnership. Tarantino lent his name to Roth's "Hostel," while Roth had a cameo in Tarantino's "Death Proof" and also helmed one of the parody trailers that played with the "Grindhouse" double-bill.

That parody trailer is the best thing Roth has ever done.

I saw this article at RottenTomatos. If they hate it I usually like it.

#1 QUENTIN TARANTINO RECRUITS THE FIRST OF HIS INGLORIOUS BASTARDS

This was a big week for the casting of Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards (AKA Inglorious Basterds, which is how the script spells it), with nearly every day bringing a new name, but the biggest is Brad Pitt, who will be playing the goy soldier who brings the ragtag bunch of Jewish troops together for their special mission. So far, three names have surfaced to play those soldiers: Cabin Fever director Eli Roth, Numb3rs star David Krumholtz and from The Office, B.J. Novak. It appears that Tarantino's initial plans of making this an all-star affair were scrapped, and further evidence of this was the revelation that QT is looking to cast a German actor to play the main Nazi baddie instead of the rumored Leonardo DiCaprio. Also in talks to star are Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead) as a British officer and 1980s hottie Natassja Kinski (Cat People) as one of Germany's most famous actresses, who represents the obligatory "hey, remember them?" portion of a typical QT movie's cast (see also: Darryl Hannah, Michael Parks, Pam Grier, Jeff Fahey, etc)

Funnyman Mike Myers will go military for his next project.

"The Love Guru" star has joined the recruits for Quentin Tarantino's WWII ensemble flick "Inglorious Bastards," reports Variety.

In the film, Myers is slated to play British Gen. Ed Fenech, a military mastermind who creates a plot to eliminate the Nazi leaders.

He joins the previously cast Brad Pitt, Eli Roth and B.J. Novak. Simon Pegg, Nastassja Kinski and David Krumholtz are still in talks to co-star.

The Weinstein Co. and Universal will put the Tarantino-scripted project into production on Oct. 13 in Germany.

Uh, yeah? Not seeing as how he fits into a Tarantino film exactly, but okay.

Re: Tarantino's "Inglorious Bastards"

Me neither...but looking back, Chris Tucker was in Jackie Brown long enough to get got. I remember being surprised and pissed off that this hilarious guy got killed so quick.

But watching the film again later, it's an awesomely filmed sequence.

I'm not saying Mike Myers will get killed or anything, just that the 'Funnyman-in-Tarantino-Flick' thing isn't entirely unprecedented. And Myers did take at least one serious turn in 54.
