"AVATAR"-James Cameron

James Cameron's
"AVATAR"
December 18th, 2009

Written & Directed by: James Cameron

A man tries to make his way as a miner by combining with an Alien during an interplanetary war in which aliens can manifest themselves by possessing human bodies – avatars.

I can't take it. I don't care that this film won't be released until May 22, 2009. This thread must start now and the word must be spread about this absolute FIERCENESS.

Lets see here.....where to begin.....

A few years ago, there was a very small very exclusive panel held in Hollywood (I think it was there) where some of the biggest names in directing (Lucas, Spielberg, Tarantino, Jackson, Del Toro, etc....I forget exactly who was there...it was a while ago. ) were going to address a (like I said) VERY SMALL panel. They didn't know what they were about to see.
At this panel, James Cameron revealed his top secret NEW 3D technology to the directors and the audience. He applied it to the first 11 minutes of Star Wars: A New Hope, one of the battle scenes from Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring, and The 3D Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl (there may have been more, but thats what I remember reading about).

Needless to say, everyone was TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY by what they saw. The best description of the event was like "you were IN the movie". I don't know if it involved glasses or anything, but from what I've heard, it has something to do with giving the screen depth where you feel like you could walk into the screen or something to that effect. It will be freaking INSANE.

Bottom line - Cameron plans to release this FIERCE on the world with his latest film "AVATAR". Project_880 Project_880 is the wiki page for the film.
As of right now, the only two actors I know who have been cast are Michael Biehn and Sigourney Weaver (yep, Jim's gettin back some of the "Aliens" crew for this one ).

Oh, and did I mention that I have one of the ORIGINAL DRAFTS of the scriptment for this movie? Its about 60 or so pages long (they're not numbered and I'm not counting ) and I"ve had it for at least 4 years. He's been sitting on this project until he was ready to unleash the new 3D MADNESS upon us. I gotta tell ya, this was HANDS DOWN one of the COOLEST STORIES I HAVE EVER READ!!!! Even if it WASN'T in 3D crazyness, it would be one of the most amazing stories since Star Wars. When I got the scriptment and read it, I couldn't put it down. If the movie is HALF as cool as the scriptment I have, then we're in for a REAL TREAT.

I know there are articles in the AICN archive related to this, but I'm too tired to dig around for them now. The last thing I remember was Jim Cameron called Harry Knowles of AICN to talk about the project - this was when he dropped the Beihn and Weaver bombs to the public.

Discuss on....we have plenty of time.

Re: James Cameron's "AVATAR"

I found some of the links at AICN....

AVATAR moves forward

Harry interviews James Cameron about AVATAR (Part 1)

More news and why there was no Part 2

AVATAR hires a cinematographer and some more actors!
Looks like this one slipped past my radar - Stephen Lang and Michelle Rodriguez have also been cast.

Was the potato salad any good, Rocky?

Re: James Cameron's "AVATAR"

I've never heard of this movie or this crazy new technology. I'm interested in both now.

As for this new movie technology it reminds me of a conversation I had with a friend a while back. We were talking about how movies had evolved from silent to sound, then from black and white to color, and wondered how it would progress again. 3D was the obvious answer. I figured 3D (although w/o blue and red glasses) would somehow soon become mainstream. Perhaps this is the beginning?

Do you work in the movie business or something, Truff? (Not to pry, but we’ve got 3 years and only Avatar and Potato Salad to discuss.)

I don't know what, but when it was over,
I said to myself, "is that all there is...?"

If that's all there is my friends, then let's keep dancing
Let's break out the booze and have a ball
If that's all there is

Hehehe, no I don't work in the film industry, but through friends of friends I manage to get goodies from time to time.

I used an oil-based dressing instead of traditional emulsions.

I also read that CCH Pounder (Claudette Wyms on The Shield) has also been cast in Avatar.

Yes, I read it on the FX Website for The Shield. I just checked, it's in her biography.
