To me it felt like Tarantino took the easy way out. He had a great idea for a film then dialed in the script using his formulaic dialogue and violence. Just as FITLOL says, I was never drawn in. I often felt as though I was watching a cartoon. This movie is a classic case of style over substance and caricatures over characters.

Still, I liked it for what it was, much the same way I liked Sin City.

Re: Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds"

To me there wasn't enough caricature or camp. Just flashes here and there.

The subplots became the centerpiece and the film and the basterds were hardly in the movie at all.

Seems like with the recent QT movies, they are made up of great scenes and parts strung together. This one had less of these parts that I would want to see again.

I wonder if the baseball bat scene was intentionally filmed to show a soldier's bravery, regardless of his uniform, or if we were supposed to cheer for a Jew beating a Nazi with a bat in a campy joke. To me, QT set it up as a morally ambiguous scene, grayed the edges and made it less black and white. I wonder if he was aware of this.

I was going to see this one tonight but I watched the trailer and thought I'd rather see the one with Matt instead.

Turns out I got drunk at the pool hall and stayed to rack a few more tables.

Ah well....

'd Col. Landa and Shosanna, it was their story. Landa's scene were powerful and unsettling.

Each scene was unsettling yet sprinkled with humor, if not nervous laughs; such as the struddle scene.

It was the subtle humor and gimmicks he used that made this such an enjoyable movie for me. I don't like many of his films mainly because of the gratuitious gore but I though this was surprisingly good.

It is nommed for a Golden Globe and Tarantino as director. Christopher Walz is the only nom I agree with, he stole the movie (btw, his Italian was superb). How does a movie in desperate of editing get nominated for Best Picture?

I thought the movie was very nearly perfect, and greatly anticipate owning the special 2-disk set!

I can totally understand a best picture nomination.
