I seem to get stuck watching the episode all after the fact....
Homer...that sleuthing was priceless, love it!
I had read a preview review of the episode by EW in which I was assured that this episode was the best ever since the show peeps said they were now going to concentrate more on the characters instead of whatever else they've been concentrating on. I have no idea what was meant by that, but since I'm trying to give this show the benefit of the doubt, I went with it and went into this episode thinking...be positive. So much for that, it was the same ol show just new stuff to get on it about. The writers are still horrible at executing anything good so I have no qualms about ripping it some more where it needs ripping.
What I liked? I did like Bryce this week. He might be the best actor on the show (now that he's been given story). He actually has feelings that get expressed believably. His story was just poorly executed by the writers. Shocker. The single WORST thing I saw in his side of the story? Dr. Benford sees him all flush faced and uses the word "febrile" REALLY WRITERS??? C'MON SHE'S A MOM!
I also liked not seeing the board of useless clues this week.
What I hated....
Ok writers...yes, I get that you like irony and all (see: Janis' clock radio mocking her with blood circles) but stop. The linking of Bryce's throwing up to the phrases in his Japanese 101 lesson = cheap/weak. Are you trying to get your show canceled?
If I can add to your rant about the NSA lady? The exposition re: why they didn't get faces I *hoped* was a shoutout to people who screamed about them not being able to enhance faces in that video last week because they figured out how stupid it was that they never did that but rather got enhanced starred arms. But then I thought, huh, if THAT'S the case, didn't THIS exposition make LAST week's epic fail at enhancement even more eye rolley. They had less to work with last week with bad lighting, crap video from a poorly aimed cell phone and skin.
But the light hit the ring just right for them to get that enhanced. But no such technology exists to enhance a face. Nope, no sell with me either.
After the Abbott and Costello-like exposition (since I guess they are slowing down on repeating scenes ad naseum) of "your call" "that call" "you know, the one about your murder" Again, writers stop it! Everybody doesn't have to pipe in to get a line in this scene. And if they do, could it be a meaningful line instead of "that call" "your call.." or the favorite "you know the call where you're murdered" Like Demetri (or the audience) has forgotten this tidbit. WE THE AUDIENCE REMEMBER THE CRAP ABOUT THIS SHOW, IT'S YOU WRITERS THAT FORGET.
I beyond HATED that they made her snivel her answer like she's and the NSA are in the wrong. (forget that she decides to give up the audio anyway) Gah.
The audio enhancement? Yeah. I though voice of death was a harbor away from all that stuff, like across a bay harbor away. Seems like that would be unpossible to enhance. But I guess that was some 3D filler somethingnother. Which works better than fake technology to enhance faces. Which would sure come in handy.
Oh, nice hypocricy about the tapping of FBI phones and the hacking CIA computers. One is done within the scope of one's duty one is illegal. Writers, please talk amongst yourself as to which is which and a hint is your first answer is wrong.
The text message scene was needless, which made the other two scenes about it useless. Those scenes just served to amplify how bad the writing on this show is and how horrible Feinnes is acting in on it. Why bring this up, we've been done with this for two episodes now. And remember? Al died to make everything good for everybody. Oh and why is it over? Because you had him tell her already writers!!!! If you wanted mileage out of that text message you should have had him answer her phone 3 episodes ago. DROP THIS NOW DO NOT PICK THIS STORY STRAY PATH UP AGAIN, UNLESS IT GETS FEINNES PUNCHED OUT AND HIS CHARACTER OFF THE SHOW.
My last hate nit is the scene with Nicole and dad. "Threw my lips over" sure...that line was believable coming out of him. But I digress. Dad picks up an empty bottle, then daughter has downed a half a bottle of wine before dinner even starts. Why on EARTH is the conversation about her drinking near him and not drinking so much period. Is he not allowed to say that via some AA code or something? But ok, I'll let that go. But having him get indignant and then move the bottle closer to her??! That was beyond my comprehension.
Such.failness.
I didn't have a problem with Bryce ramming that dude's car several times, I think the car dude outdid him in the obnoxiousness quite frankly.
Can't wait to see how they manage to get to Hong Kong and how they'll still have a job when they get back. I get Demtri's cavalier attitude, he might be dead in a few months so unemployment won't mean much to him. Well, except it might suck if he's not dead since Al GameChanger Gough, well changed the game. Have they forgotten the game's changed?
